Held on the second
weekend in October in Old Town Katy, the
fun-filled event features over 300 food
and craft booths, a carnival and family
entertainment for young and old on two stages.
The festival which began in 1980 celebrates
our rich farming and harvest traditions
and area heritage.
A must attend event
for the entire family, with excellent local
and area participation. For information
call Katy Area Chamber of Commerce at
281-391-5289 (KATY).
An evening Fireworks
display is held at dusk at the Katy Mills
Mall. This family event is free to the
public and paid for through private donations.
Picnic or tail gate party in the parking
lot.
Held in April at the Kenneth
D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center, the festival
takes place on a wooded 34.5 acre site with
a caretaker’s cottage, large barn and
barnyard, a duck pond, creek, nature trails
and history and science classrooms/museums.
See, Hear & Smell... Black powder rifles
& cannons booming, campfires burning,
pottery wheels turning, soft twang of the
dulcimers, aroma of corn cakes to sample,
open fire cooking. Come and experience life
on the prairie from 100 years ago.
One of the
largest school rodeos in the state, the three-day
event attracts some of the best rodeo professionals
in the country, who head for Katy after the
Houston rodeo. Although the rodeo draws most
of the crowd, the local excitement revolves
around the livestock show where agriculture
students from all four Katy high schools have
the opportunity to exhibit, and in some cases,
sell their animals.
